The misunderstood cerebellum The cerebellum only makes up about 10% of the total human brain. It has a reputation for being a 'primitive brain' that only supports basic processes - such as those that determine whether we should fight or flee. In reality, however, the cerebellum is quite misunderstood. The cerebellum is not just a small spot in the head that only controls basic motor skills. New research shows that the small part of the brain may not be as small as previously thought, but has in fact been ignored by research for a long time. Dispelling the myths about the cerebellum when an associate professor of cognitive neuroscience Lau Moller Andersenfrom Aarhus University makes us understand why the cerebellum is much more complicated than it seems.
