Lavish ballet on the Bibliographer's canvas In 18th-century Paris, money is everything, and even love can be bought. Manon falls in love with the student Des Grieux, who offers her an honorable life, but the temptation of wealth and status in Parisian society is hard to resist. Manon's inner conflict is at the heart of Kenneth Mac Millan's 1974 ballet Manon, based on the Abbé Prévost novel With sharp psychological insight, the work depicts moral decay in a lavish Paris, supported by Jules Massenet's music and Nicholas Georgiadis's scenography.
