Come and help sew sustainable fabric bags for the Library. On Mondays, a group of volunteers meet around the sewing machines at the libraries in Them and Silkeborg and sew sustainable fabric bags from surplus and recycled fabric. The fabric bags have replaced the library's plastic bags. The concept is known internationally as Boomerang Bags, which started in Australia and are a kind of reusable bags sewn from recycled fabric. They are designed so that you can take a bag for your books and put it back the next time you are at the library. You don't need to be a sewing whiz - there are templates and expert guidance. It's relatively easy to follow for most people. You are also welcome to bring your own sewing machine, but this is not a requirement. It's completely non-binding and you don't have to come every time. So come and join a cozy community and make a sustainable difference at the same time. Recycled fabric and straps for the bags are donated by local companies, including Mascot, Dacapo Stainless and HMT.
