Lecture: Nina Bang - pioneer in many fields

Come to a lecture at Kulturværftet on Saturday, September 26th and hear about the pioneer Nina Bang - the world's first female minister for a democratic government. Nina Bang (1866-1928) was an academic, researcher, author, journalist, politician, women's rights activist, mother, international networker and much more. But how has she been remembered in the past? The lecture highlights both her role in Danish politics and her place in history. Nina Bang grew up in Helsingør, where her German father was the conductor of the military orchestra at Kronborg. The bourgeois father teasingly called his daughter "little red one" because she already possessed social indignation as a child. With support from home, she was among the first women to become a student and then a master's degree. Politically, she belonged to the Social Democratic left wing, and she was crucial to the development of the Social Democrats, which succeeded in getting Stauning elected to the post of Prime Minister in 1924.
