When fish and other aquatic animals are affected by our medicine. Klimacafe 1 invites you to a lecture with Professor Henriette Selck Denmark's marine environment is already heavily polluted by environmentally hazardous substances such as heavy metals, PFAS and other industrial chemicals. In fact, more than 98% of Danish marine areas are not considered to be in good chemical condition. But there is a lesser-known form of pollution that also finds its way into our aquatic environment: pharmaceutical residues. When we take painkillers, antidepressants, cholesterol-lowering drugs, diabetes medications and many other medications, some of the substances are excreted again through urine and feces. The treatment plants cannot remove all of these substances, and therefore they end up in rivers, fjords and the sea.
