Year of the Fox. Author Anne Lise Marstrand-Jørgensen, Copenhagen. Læsø 1780. Between heath and dunes, on the outermost part of the island, lives a group of women. They own the houses, drive horse-drawn carriages, look after animals and children and cultivate the sandy soil. Their husbands and sons are at sea and rarely come home. Near the outermost dune the female fox digs a den and watches over the women. Perhaps the fox knows more about them than they do. Some give it gifts, others steal from it. Fox Year is a collective novel about women who make the small island community function. About a dramatic life where you can only survive by sticking together.
