In the midst of the roaring 1920 s, a fantastic outdoor life, or "camping sport" as it was called at the time, emerged in Denmark. People flocked out of the city and pitched tents by the forest and beach. They were dubbed "City Nomads", and many of them had a special fondness for Køge Bay. This was the start of the Danish camping tradition. Speaker Thomas Lasse Edlev's grandparents were among the first pioneers of camp life In 1926, they helped found Denmark's first camping club, which soon established itself under the name Hundige Strand Camping, and which later grew into the Danish Camping Union.
