Because of a secret in Johannes' past, there is only one solution to the family's problems: to go to America. Johannes' husband Jens leaves ahead of him and a year and a half later Johanne and the children follow. When Johanne reunites with Jens in Nebraska, the biggest challenge awaits: creating a new life on the prairie. The second volume in the series is called "Where the Fire Burns" and begins in 1883. The farm has grown, as have the children. But unforeseen events cause everything to change suddenly.
