You will be told a story about a number of the exciting people who are buried in the chapel, and you will be told about the decoration and inscriptions of various coffins. Exclusive tour of the princely burial chapel at Sønderborg Castle In 2025, we opened the Princely Burial Chapel after it had been closed for almost 100 years. We will repeat this unique opportunity in 2026. Behind the castle church at Sønderborg Castle lies a princely burial chapel, where 46 dukes, duchesses, princes and princesses are buried in five rooms. The chapel is closed to the public on a daily basis, and is only open for these guided tours. You'll hear a story about some of the interesting people who have been buried in the chapel, and you'll learn about the decoration and inscriptions on various coffins. The tours are led by the head of the History unit at Museum Sønderjylland, Dr. phil.
