A sensual tale from Japan's oldest pilgrimage route about walking 1,300 kilometers through a foreign land without language or fixed points of reference Japan's iconic pilgrimage route connects 88 temples in a circle around the island of Shikoku - a desolate and relatively unknown part of Japan that the world hears about most when typhoons hit the island. The route goes over rugged mountain ranges and through kilometers of rice fields - from the turbulent Pacific Ocean in the south to the calm Seto Inland Sea in the north. Marie and her husband Torben had never set foot in Japan before when they began the 1,300-kilometer trek with one and a half million steps ahead of them. In the lecture, Marie talks about the liberating experience of moving through an unknown country without being able to read the language, culture or social codes.
