The route goes over rugged mountain ranges and through kilometers of rice fields - from the turbulent Pacific Ocean in the south to the calm Seto Inland Sea in the north. Marie and her husband Torben had never set foot in Japan before when they began the 1,300-kilometer trek with one and a half million steps ahead of them.
