Make Friends with Your Thoughts Metacognitive therapy is a relatively new method for treating a range of mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Unlike many other therapeutic approaches, this method does not focus so much on the specific content of thoughts, but rather on what one does with those thoughts Central to this is the “cognitive attention syndrome,” which encompasses a range of maladaptive strategies such as worry, rumination, hypervigilance, and avoidance behavior These are strategies that many of us are familiar with, and they can contribute to the development and persistence of mental illness. Learn more about metacognitive therapy when Ina Skyt, a licensed psychologist, Ph. D., and independent psychologist and couples therapist, provides a basic introduction as well as practical tools and exercises for identifying ineffective strategies and reducing, for example, worries and ruminations. Journalist Louise Slothis a moderator. The event is part of Folkeuniversitetet's knowledge festival Hearts & Minds.
