Can music bring back memories when the words are gone? What happens inside us when we sing along to a song we know? And why can music evoke memories and emotions, even when language fails us? Professor of Music Therapy Hanne Mette Ochsner Ridder A researcher at Aalborg University explains what music does to the brain and the mind. In her research, she explores the link between music and dementia—and demonstrates how singing can be used as a concrete tool to improve quality of life For some people, it’s the song that their body remembers: perhaps a lullaby for a child or the melody from a time when they were in love. The lecture also goes beyond the field of dementia and offers a broader perspective on how music can enhance well-being, relationships, and quality of life—for all of us.
