Studio Visit with Birgitte Støvring

You’re invited to an exciting and unique studio visit on Thursday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m. We’ll be visiting Birgitte’s brand-new studio in her garden in Højbjerg, where we’ll see and learn much more about Birgitte’s art. Birgitte Støvring speaks about her own works:"In my latest series of paintings, I have been working with a character called 'the gardener.' I never had any desire to paint idyllic garden scenes, but when my family and I moved from Copenhagen to the countryside, a long-dormant interest was rekindled In my family, there has always been a strong connection to the earth and growth. My grandmother, in particular, understood the importance of tending to and fertilizing the soil—that is, of giving with care in order to receive something constructive in return. The figures in my paintings are particularly connected to stories about my grandmother. You could say that she has become a new version of the Greek goddess Demeter, who watches over the earth’s fertility.
