Madness in Literature #1: Sylvia Plath: The Bell Jar

Helsinge Library is hosting two pop-up reading groups this fall with the theme "Madness in Literature". This event is the first of the two reading groups. We read the 1963 literary classic about Esther Greenwood's fall from ambition and competence to depression and hospitalization. The book is described as a key novel and closely follows Plath's real life. The Bell Jar is also a critical portrait of 1950 s America. No special qualifications are required to participate, just a desire to talk about the book and share reading experiences with others. There is room for a maximum of 10 participants, so everyone gets the opportunity to speak and share their thoughts. The book can be picked up from September 1st at the counter at Helsinge Library.
