What to know

What do we know about ADHD today? Once upon a time, restlessness, impulsivity, and difficulty concentrating were often interpreted as a lack of discipline, weak character, or poor upbringing. Today, research points in a completely different direction: towards genetics, neurobiology and a complex interaction between heredity, environment and the brain's way of regulating attention. At the same time, neurodivergence has become a central concept in understanding that not all brains sense and process information in the same way. Senior physician and professor of child and adolescent psychiatry Per Hove Thomsen, Aarhus University Hospital, and host Christian Cherry, the LIFE Foundation, delves into what we know today about ADHD - symptoms, causes, treatment, different needs and support - and dispels some of the most common misconceptions.
