Then join us for an open reading group about Zadie Smith's critically acclaimed novel The Deceiver. The novel is based on the real-life Tichborne case from 1870 s England - a spectacular trial about identity, deception and class. Through the housekeeper Mrs Touchet, Zadie Smith unfolds a witty and sharp tale about colonialism, race, power and the stories we choose to believe. We talk about the novel's many layers, its historical background and the questions it raises about identity, truth and belonging. You don't need to be a literary expert - just have read the book and want to share your reading experiences with others. We provide coffee and good conversation.
