The black drink's journey from total luxury to everyday life The Danes have lived with coffee since we first heard about it in 1665 - and that story has been written by Annette Hoff, historian and museum curator. Here she gives us an insight into the Danes' daily lives with coffee from the very beginning and right up to our own time, from the absolute luxury of the 17th century to today's everyday consumption. Among other things, we find out why we are a nation of coffee drinkers today, even though tea was the most popular drink in the 1700 s. The Danish Coffee History is part of the Hoff book series The Danish History of Pleasures, published by The Old Town in Aarhus in the years 2015-18. Here she tells the story herself and provides many of the book's pictures of coffee equipment, living rooms, kitchens, coffee roasters, coffee shops, cafes, etc. There will of course be a coffee break along the way - and as always at the Morning Lectures, cake and pleasant conversation will be served.
