In the town where Bo lives, her monstrous fingers are nothing but trouble and a source of teasing. One day, Bo's mysterious grandmother Flora falls and hits her head, and Bo moves into Flora's huge city apartment with his parents to look after her. Grandma Flora is a bit of a lady of the world and has lived a long and secret life as an amateur botanist. On top of Flora's apartment, high above the city, Bo finds a neglected greenhouse, filled with amazing plants that Flora has brought home. A new world opens up for Bo. Suddenly she realizes that, like Flora, she is able to communicate with plants.
