A Theater Monologue with Pia Rosenbaum, based on the Romanian author Aglaja Veteranyi's novel of the same name. "My mother is different from others because she hangs by her hair and it pulls her head out in length and makes her brain long" A young girl escapes with her circus family from Ceausescu's communist dictatorship in Romania in the 1970 s. They perform with circuses around the world - stepdaughter, sister, aunt, stepfather and a mother who risks her life every night hanging from a trapeze! The girl witnesses transgressive behavior in a totally dysfunctional family in a nomadic circus life with consequences. This chaotic existence drives the girl into the world of fantasy. Together with her sister, she makes up stories to distract herself, such as the one about the child boiling in the polenta. With black humor and an ever-lurking tragedy and cruelty, the story is told through the lived life of an elderly woman.
